5 Steps to Achieving your goals

We often have goals we earnestly want to achieve. However, due to lack of the right implementation we end up ditching them. The often comes as a result of the lack the right information and strategies as to how we can bring them to reality.

We often have goals we earnestly want to achieve. However, due to lack of the right implementation we end up ditching them. The often comes as a result of the lack the right information and strategies as to how we can bring them to reality.

I have collected these tips I like to think of as cornerstone activities you must do to start realizing your dreams.

1. Make a decision.
Decisions, we make them every day but only a few go into our good column when we are thinking about decisions we make. Why is that so? Fact is when it comes to life changing decisions, it’s a little more difficult because it requires a long term commitment to keep and mostly we have to give away our comfort if we really mean to see that decision to the end.

But remember, if your life is hard today, you will have an easy future but if you choose to live the easy today your future is going to be hard. But while you are living the easy live, remember you will complain, you will whine and grind your teeth about how you hate your life which is also a form of discomfort. So choose wisely. Make a decision to make your life better and set your goals. Take full responsibility for making them come true and have faith in your ability to make them happen.

2. Write a plan on paper with real deadlines.
Simply making a decision and having a bunch of goals about how you want to change your life, make it better and live your dreams. It goes deeper than that. It requires knowing what you are up for and what it requires. If you want a car which costs x amount, then you need to get a plan on how you are going to make that amount over the time within which you have given yourself to buy that car.

Its proven that 80% of people who write down they’re goals are likely to achieved they’re goals. So writing down your goals are a MUST DO! Writing them down allowed you to actually think about the various things you need to do, it engages your brain. As you write out your goals, give them deadlines. I always say, goals without deadlines are nothing but wishes, and if wishes were horses, beggars would ride.

3. Develop discipline. Take the first step, do it right now!
Be it a call, scheduling an appointment, seeking advice, drawing a plan or whatever you think it’s the starting point of your journey, do it now. That’s the mindset of discipline – doing what you have to do, right away depending on its level of importance whether you feel like doing it or not. Don’t pay attention to the results, play the long game.

Patience is a key weapon among your arsenals for this battle. To stay disciplined, its best you develop keystone habits as Charles Duhigg calls them. They’re a few habits which allow your day to flow just the way you want it without you having to feel like you are being drag down the aisle of your day.

4. Change your mindset. Work on your mind daily, it’s your greatest asset.

5. Be grateful!
There’s a very old saying and I know you’ve heard it. It’s from the bible. It says, to the one who has more shall be given and what those who don’t have will be taken from them. I would like to give you a new perspective of that saying today. Most people think of it from a direct point.

Being grateful for what you want to have though you haven’t had it pulls it more to you than those who have a lot and think they have nothing, they’ll end up losing what they have. So next time you hear that saying, think of it in terms of gratefulness and be grateful for every little bit of goodness you experience cos then you’ll go ahead and have it.

If you do this as a new year resolution, chances are you’re going to fail. You don’t wait for new year to work magic; magic can be worked at any time. It’s sad that the world waits for new year to starting doing what they want to do. Most people don’t even remember their resolutions by February and very few are able to fully achieve their new year goals. What I think we should do make life resolutions so we don’t have to wait for new year. Anytime we see the need, we make the resolution and make a plan for it.
