Life can be one heck of a drain on all our strengths be it physical, spiritual, mental or emotional. We are constantly being stressed. This is especially true for those who have tried to cutout their own paths in this jungle of life filled with wild lions and animals waiting to pounce at any sign of flesh. Such situations provide us with what is called the “process”.

The process is what lies between who we are and who we want to ultimately become. While going through the process, it’s okay to hate “Yourself”. Here’s why. Note the use of yourself in quotations, it’s very important to note that we have idea self and self-image relative to our self-esteem.

While growing up, we have dreams of becoming a certain image we hold deep within. As life goes on, we may totally abandon this image for another. We may also further develop that image into a very specific identity we wish to have. So from just wanting to being a lawyer, you may choose to become a criminal lawyer to protect the rights of people being falsely accused of being criminals. This choice may stem from the fact that someone you love may have gone through that situation and you watched, helpless without being able to do anything. Hence your decisions.
The mental image is your dream. This image is what you want to become. This is one of the reasons why I think deep down within we are all kids, chasing our wild dreams.

Between who we want to become and who we are in the now, lies a person or personality, an image. Now this image is our current self because we are still in the process, we are still chasing our dreams. Deep down within, we know we are heroes, I believe. This results in a kind of hate for the current person we are. We hate the person we are now with passion because we have not yet become who we want to be deep within. But that shouldn’t be so though it’s okay. You can work on it. You must learn to accept yourself wholly for who you are even though you may be who you want to be. Understand that it’s a journey and much like diamond you must painstakingly cut the parts you don’t want in your life to get that shining diamond that you love.

Sometimes we may even have thoughts of committing suicide. The mistake people make is to hate their physical body hence all it comes with, thus our mind and spirit. Such thoughts of suicide are often against the current image, our self in transit. The one undergoing the process. That is normal. Now I’m not saying it’s good in any way to commit suicide. What I mean is, there’s a part we hate because we yearn to change. We yearn constantly for something great which we haven’t yet become.

Rise above hating yourself, but use it to your advantage
Personal development is what we should constantly engage in. This will help you develop the image you want while accepting that there isn’t anything like perfection. People engrossed in developing themselves are able to make a picture of what they want, realize that they are in a process and that they need not panic. Time and work with persistence will turn them into the people they want to be.
Personally, I’ve been through several episodes of hating myself. The feeling which comes with it makes me yearn who I want to become more and more. This drives me to do more and more of the stuff I need to do to get me to where I want to be.
Next time you go into a self-hate frenzy, don’t panic and don’t commit physical suicide, but commit yourself to continuous growth and promise yourself that you will do what needs to be done to make you the person you want to be.
